Sending to "Other" E-mail address
December 02, 2014, 07:43:15 am
Good Evening Everyone,

I am in a bit of a quandary over how to deal with CiviMail and Smart Groups, but using the "other" e-mail.

This is the scenario: We have 200 organisations who under company law we need a singular main contact for legal documents to be sent to (AGM paperwork, etc) by either e-mail or hard copy, which can be opted by the main contact.

What I wanted to do was create a relationship "Main Contact" and use a custom field to define their preferences for this particular mailing list; but as I understand it enforcing 1 contact per organisation is not something that the relationships in Civi can be configured for (?)
So what I have done instead is created a custom field set specifically with the details for the Main Contact; but I can not find a way to add a separate e-mail field in there that I can use with CiviMail
So what I was intending to do was use the e-mail "other" field tied to the organisation, along with the custom fields and then create a Smart Group so that we can target those specific e-mail addresses. The actual details would be updated via a Drupal Webform where obviously we can limit down the e-mail address uniquely to that form.

But it does not seem to allow me to specify which address on record to send the mail to.

Am I really missing the logic behind all of this; or is what I am doing not possible?

The Smart Group would literally be created for all the Organisations where the Main Contact:opt-out field is set to the YES radio button and send to either: (a) an e-mail address within the custom field or (b) the "other" e-mail field in the main details of the contact.

It looks like what you need is described at:

That does sound like the flexibility that we need.
It is only now hopefully a question of sitting and waiting and finding an interim work around!
