Hi all,

After the success of GSoC 2014, it's time to plan for the next one, so hopefully we will be accepted and have a great batch of mentors and students delivering great products

We have already 15 projects ideas on that list, we need more mentors, more ideas. Please edit and improve:

http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRM/Google+Summer+of+Code+-+2015

Another area where we could benefit is to promote toward universities and IT schools, so we get more students interested. If you are an alumi or organise meetup, could you see how to promote it at your university?

And if you have ideas to get the 2015 edition even more successful, please join the discussion

Skvare is interested in mentoring and suggesting a couple of projects, such as the recently released https://civicrm.org/blogs/brandonferrell/drupal-views-civicrm-dashlets. We can update the wiki with proposed ideas and will submit mentor info in the spring.

Hi Guys,

I am really interested in joining the projects for the 2015 edition of GSoC. I just need a little bit of guidance throughout the process of selection since I have come across the GSoC recently. I am a Computer Science student and I am interested in web and cloud technologies.
Any one can help me on how to initiate the process?

Hi,

You need to wait a few months before being able to register on the google site as a student and register for one project offered by one of the open source software.

Before that, you can already look at the suggested projects on the wiki and if you find one you like, start discussing it in the forum. It doesn't make sure you will be chosen, but interested and involved students are definitely something we want ;)

I put up a speed boost suggestion, and will also put up genericising the FF Tracking Survey tech so that it can be released (currently an early version of it is 'shared'). Not sure if I will be able to mentor that though...

Mega-Man Michael McAndrew has tentatively expressed an interest in forming a tag-team with "Big Boss" JohnFF for this particular championship title.

So now and until the 16 of march, students can present themselves (new thread per student) and say what project they are interested in and in general mingle with the community.

and mentors and friends of civi, if you know students that you think should apply, now is the good time to ping them...

Xavier and EmilyF, could you put some guidelines together in terms of what we are expecting from student proposals in light of http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRM/Application+draft+2015? Eg code commit within first two weeks, daily forum scrum checkin, meetings with mentor at least every two weeks, etc.

Are we in need of more applicants? Approximately how many spots did we get this year?

Hi,

Got a draft since the past two months almost ready. I'll brush it and publish this week.

as for the number of slots, it depends on the number of applicants/mentors, google is going to let us know later. for know, the aim is to have as many good mentor/project/students as possible to have as many slots as possible
