Ron Paul Flash Donation Module

I had posted an idea about this on the Joomla Forums here:
http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=231&t=293218

But since there is going to be a lot of collaboration between Joomla and CiviCRM this summer I thought I'd mention it here so, especially since it seems to make more sense to post it here.
Earlier today I didn't know too much about CiviCRM other than that it could be useful for non-profits, but now I can see that it has some really neat stuff. After I saw the CiviContribute Component, along with its widget I began thinking that most of what I'm looking for has already been built in CiviCRM, but the packaging may need some additional help :-).

I'd like to get something like Ron Paul's Flash Donation Module working with CiviCRM (and so it can be used in Joomla/Drupal and lots of nonprofits :-). If you never saw this flash donation module please visit the link above as I've provided a screenshot of how it looked and also a fairly detailed description of what it did (since they aren't doing any additional fundraising at the moment they took it down a few months ago).

I'd like to hear what people would have to say about this since I think this module played a very crucial role in the $20 million that Ron Paul was able to raise because of it's ability to provide immediate feedback.

Also, we've recently brought up donations on the Joomla Developers Blog so it seemed like an opportune time to discuss this capability:

The existing CiviContribute widget and the associated amfphp gateway "service" has most of the "elements" that are in the Ron Paul widget. The differences I noticed are:

* Display of a "random" recent donor w/ some location information (state or ?)
* Two layers of goals (monthly and overall campaign). CiviContribute's data model currently supports a single goal amount for the "campaign" / contribution page.

We don't have a Flash expert on the core dev team - but if you have that skill and would like to put forward a proposal to enhance the widget - either functionally, or to make the graphic design better / more configurable, that would be great.

I think showing 1 or even several recent donors is an interesting idea - although we would also need to add a flag that the contributor can set to indicate if they want their name to be included in a public display of donors. Posting a specific set of suggested enhancements here and asking for feedback would be a good first step.

If you decide to push this forward - take a look at the existing widget.fla file as well as the PHP which drives the data (CRM/Widget/Widget.php). Then you can ping us with specific questions.

Thank you for the reply Dave!

I wasn't aware that the .fla files were in there. Let me sit down sometime this weekend to flesh the requirements out and see what would be needed to add into CiviCRM. I'm no Flash expert :-), but I think this can be made easy enough, we just need to set things up correctly. I'll be posting again soon :-).
