upgrading test site to 2.0
May 30, 2008, 06:53:34 am
A delayed project first installed some months ago on our development server is using CiviCRM 1.9

There's nothing but test data on there.

Can I just remove all the CiviCRM tables, and do a CiviCRM 2.0 install from scratch
http:///wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Install+2.0+for+Drupal

Or do I need to perform the whole upgrade:
http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Upgrade+Drupal+Sites+to+2.0

(I'll also be upgrading Drupal to 5.7 from 5.5.)

My sense is that installing from scratch will be easier, so if I can do that, let me know.

Thanks!

Margie

hey margie

If you don't need any of the data at all, the easiest thing to do would be to toss it. Delete the CiviCRM database (assuming it's separate from Drupal) AND delete the CiviCRM module folder. Then follow the CiviCRM install instructions here: http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Install+2.0+for+Drupal

The fact that you need to do a minor revision upgrade on Drupal should not affect CiviCRM. But if you are not using separate databases for CiviCRM and Drupal, you will need to just delete all the CiviCRM tables as you say. Just don't forget to completely remove the CiviCRM module folder before you start again.

Just to strengthen Emily’s reply: dropping the database (and creating it again) has the advantage over just dropping the tables that it also makes sure you don’t have any leftover indices, triggers, etc.
If you found the above helpful, please consider helping us in return – you can even steer CiviCRM’s future and help us extend CiviCRM in ways useful to you.
