Assign group after import?
January 05, 2015, 03:16:24 pm
I just imported about 400 contacts.  I mapped the fields and assigned a new mailing list group name to the import.  The import appeared to go fine, but for some reason the new group was not created, and the new contacts do not appear to belong to any group.

Normally I could fix this by using the advanced search to find all records created today and then assigning them all to a group, but this is the second import I've done today.

Any way to assign a group to this list now?  Those contacts are going to be pretty useless to me if I can't find them for a targeted mailing later.

P.S. Should I be getting some kind of confirmation message when an import completes successfully?  Right now it just returns me to the Import Contacts screen (civicrm/import/contact?reset=1), making it hard for me to tell if the import happened.

Thanks.

You should be getting a notice, yes - indicating how many records imported successfully, how many didn't, etc.

That aside - if you can identify the starting and ending contact ID number (they should all be consecutive unless someone created a contact in a minutes your import was running), you should be able to use the Search Builder to ID them.

I think I have narrowed down the relevant contact ID numbers, but I don't see that field in the Search Builder, assuming I am correct to choose Contacts as the record type.  Is it called something else?  "Unique ID" doesn't seem to capture it.

Thanks!

In Civi 4.5, it's "Internal Contact ID", but I know that the names of those fields have changed a bit from 4.4 to 4.5 - e.g. "Geo Code 1" and "Geo Code 2" are now "Latitude" and "Longitude" respectively in Search Builder.  Contacts is the correct entity type!
