Issues with the Joomla civiCRM authenication plugin
January 06, 2015, 01:48:27 pm
I am using the latest release of the Joomla civiCRM Authentication plugin on a rather new civiCRM/Joomla install.  When I launched the website a month ago, it was working properly.  Every time a user logged in with a valid membership, they were assigned to the Members user group.  When the membership expired, they were removed from the Members user group.

This worked flawlessly during testing, and after we went live.  However sometime between now and then it has stopped working.

Users can still login fine, however they are no longer added to or removed from the Members user group.

We are running civiCRM 4.5.4 on Joomla 3.3.6, and the latest build of the Authentication plugin.

Anyone ever have this issue?  Or have any thoughts on how to fix it?

If it was working and now it isn't, you should look for what has changed in the interim.

I have only a few hours "experience" with Joomla!, and don't really know how the plugin works but I presume "Members user group" is a Joomla! group.

Have you installed or upgraded a Joomla! extension or has your hosting environment been altered in anyway.

There can be unanticipated consequences of just about any change made anywhere it seems to me.

I hear what you are saying, and I agree.  However, there hasn't been any changes to the environment since launch.  Nothing on the Joomla side, civiCRM side, or hosting side.

That is what is so puzzling.  I know this was working pre and post launch.  I tested it thoroughly.

I can't imagine what has changed to cause this.

I did end up finding the issue.  There was an authentication plugin that was installed sometime recently and that is conflicting with the civiCRM authentication plugin.  Disabled the other plugin and all is fine now.
