User and User Admin Only groups showing in Groups field
January 20, 2015, 04:19:41 am
Hello.

Not sure if I'm missing something really obvious here, but here's my problem: I want to create a kind of 'Manage your Subscriptions' page so members on our site can subscribe and unsubscribe to mailing groups. I want to use webform, not the profile at civicrm/mailing/subscribe to have a bit more control over the look and layout.

I've created a very simple webform, enabled CiviCRM processing and added First/Last name fields and existing contact field. I have enabled 'Tags and groups' options and under Groups, chosen 'User select'. In the field config I have chosen 'Live options' as we add new mailing groups quite often.

On my form it now shows all the mailing groups, not just the ones set to Public Pages.

Have I missed a setting or is this a missing feature in Webform Civi?

Thanks!

Hey there Katy,

Yep, what you experienced is how the module was designed to work. The "groups" field shows every single group (adding a hard-coded limitation like "only public mailing lists" wouldn't fit every use-case, some webforms are used for back-end staff, etc.). So the trade-off is that if you don't want it to show every group you'd need to de-select "live options".

It might be a useful feature to add in filters like that, although honestly I can't think of that many organizations that add mailing lists so often that they need live options here; most of the time mailing lists are pretty static.
Try asking your question on the new CiviCRM help site.

Cool, makes sense.

Thanks for responding so fast Coleman  :D

I think we'll be able to make it work with static options.
