Best way to install CiviCRM alongside a Drupal website
January 21, 2015, 03:00:48 am
I want to install Civi alongside a Drupal website, with the website visually integrating some of the Civi screens (signups, contributions etc).   Is it best to install Civi in a subdirectory of the website or in a subdomain?  Or does it make no difference?

I have the same question for another site where the website is Wordpress - same or different answer?

I am wondering why not to install CiviCRM inside of that Drupal site, but presuming you have some reasons for not doing that, technically speaking it makes no difference if it's a subdirectory or a subdomain. Consult your SEO specialist if he has a preference. :)

Agree with H that Civi is designed to, and works best if it is plugged directly into the main website rather than installed on a subdomain/subdirectory. That way you can directly expose webforms from Civi to your users, sync users with contacts, set up triggered rules, use views, among other integrations. None of that would be available to you if it is separate.
Try asking your question on the new CiviCRM help site.

Thanks for the advice - inside the Drupal install is the answer of course for the first question.
