Uninstall / change DB
January 23, 2015, 06:52:19 am
I'm trying out different DB hosts to solve my problem from my previous post (http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,35471.0.html) but can for the life of me not find instructions on how to change to a new database and start that from scratch through the Civicrm control panel (not looking to migrating any data - just evaluating performance right now) - is this even possible?

If not, I imagine that I have to uninstall Civicrm completely and do a new install, but are there any residual files in any of the WP-directories I'd need to delete manually (in addition to the Civicrm directories that is) after deactivating civicrm in the WP-panel?

I imagine it's been covered here and in the wiki and book, but I really can't seem to find any info. Any suggestions appreciated.

I don't quite understand what you are trying to do. You want to create a new civicrm database in a new location? I think the easiest way to accomplish that would be to delete/rename your civicrm.settings.php file. Then revisit the civicrm install screen and it will allow you to install a new db in a different location.

Sorry, I'll try to be more clear.

I'm trying out different hosts for the Civicrm database, and the one I'm trying out currently is slow as syrop. Therefore I'd like to setup a database with another provider and see if civicrm is more responsive there. What I'm looking for is somewhere to change database adress & name, user & password - like what you fill out when you first install civicrm. I'm not interested in preserving the data I've put into the database right now, but rather start afresh with the new database.

civicrm.settings.php sounds like a good start, but I don't see my server settings anywhere in that file. If I delete it, will it make the "install civicrm" page appear again? Are there any other files I need to change or erase?

No just that one. I suggest you rename it and then you can go through the install process again.

Excellent, seems to have worked! Much appreciated!

For anyone else looking to do the same thing, don't confuse the civicrm.config.php file in plugins/civicrm/civicrm/ with the civicm.settings.php in plugings/civicrm/ - not that I would do that, ever, but you know…
