Can't removed Contacts from Groups

I upgraded this past weekend from 4.4.5 to 4.5.5. All appeared to work well, but have discovered one glitch.

If I want to remove an individual contact from a group by accessing the contact, going to the groups tab, and selecting Remove or Delete, I get an error message and can not remove. I've tried this on several contacts, always the same message "Error: Sorry an error occurred and your data could not be saved". I can add to groups fine, but can't remove or delete.

If I go through Groups and do it in bulk, I can successfully remove or delete a group from contact records.

Suggestions on how to fix or is this a known bug?

Same problem here (civi version 4.5.8 )

Additional observation:
The user experiencing the problem has the drupal ACL "CiviCRM: edit groups" UNchecked.
If the "CiviCRM: edit groups" setting is enabled the problem does not occur.
However I don't want to give the user the full rights to edit/remove/add groups...

Any solution for this?

Upgrade to 4.6 did'nt help  :'(

Here's a more detailed error description (CiviCRM 4.6.2, Drupal):

  • Login as a user without "CiviCRM edit groups" permission (but with edit contacts etc. permissions).
  • Open a contact and click on the "groups" tab: there you see the contact's group memberships, where you can remove/delete these memberships.
  • Clicking Remove or Delete fails, and gives error message: "Error API permission check failed for GroupContact/delete call; insufficient permission: require access CiviCRM and edit groups"
  • Navigate to the group itself, and remove the contact from the group => it works.

Can anyone out here confirm this strange behaviour?
The "CiviCRM edit groups" permission should allow users to add/remove/edit groups themselves, but should not affect users permissions to add/remove contacts from groups.

Added it to the CiviCRM issue tracker, will be resolved in 4.6.3
