[SOLVED] SMPT server settings drop out
January 29, 2015, 01:58:27 pm
When I use ssl://smtp.gmail.com as the SMPT server setting civimail works.

However, server setting keeps dropping out and reverting to smtp.gmail.com. This is version 4.5.5.

What might be causing this? And what might be the solution?

ssl://smtp.gmail.com is, I believe, meaningless. AFAIK there is no ssl protocol, which is what you are trying to use.

Hmmm ... strange. I picked this suggestion from this forum and it does work, except that it drops out after one email and then reverts to smtp.gmail.com as the default.

We are using Google Apps and I am wondering if that might be the problem.

Yes, my mistake. That appears to be correct actually. Have you reviewed

Problem solved. I used the following settings:

SMTP server: ssl://smtp.gmail.com
SMTP port: 465
Authentication? Yes
SMPT Username: myname@mygoogleappsdomain.net
SMPT password: this was the same as the password for my email account

This works for Google Apps.

Thanks for the pointers.
