Labels not showing on Event Form

When I look at my event (in Wordpress) I see the profile headings and all of the text boxes for the imput fields, but all of the labels are missing. If I highlight over them I can see them.  Any ideas on how to fix this?

As a non-techie I would be thinking theme problem or customized .css.  It sounds like the labels are set to use the background colour and so are not visible unless they are highlighted .

Have you tried using one of common/standard wp themes?
