June 04, 2008, 03:12:11 am
Hi,

I have problem with installation.
I have uploaded civicrm-2.0.4-joomla.zip file to component directory - full path:
htdocs/administrator/components/com_installer/component

and after I have tried to install according documentation.
Login to my Joomla admin site
Go    Extensions >> Install / Uninstall
In Extension Manager
Install from Directory - I enter full path
htdocs/administrator/components/com_installer/component/com_civicrm
but I see Error - Please enter a package directory

Can you help me?

Best regards,
Wieslaw

You need a preceding and trailing slash:

Code: [Select]
/htdocs/administrator/components/com_installer/component/com_civicrm/
Also, are you sure that's the full path? Is this a VPS or shared hosting? If shared, the full path likely begins with /home/USER/ or something like that to indicate your account space on the server.

I am having the same problem.  I uploaded the zip file and unpacked it on the server.  It's location is:
/myweb.com/jhome/administrator/components/com_installer/com_civicrm/

(The web address is myweb.com)
However, when I try to do the Install from directory using /myweb.com/jhome/administrator/components/com_installer/com_civicrm/ I am directed to enter a package directory.

Can anyone help me?

Don't know if this is relevant but I always unpack the zip. I think joomla is looking for an xml file.

Also a straight install needs to run in legacy mode. There are details here on how to run in J1.5 native http://civicrm.org/node/297. Also for 2.0.4 this might be an issue (last couple of paragraphs of) re civicrmcivicrm.config.php and the xml file http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,3473.msg15694.html#msg15694

Yes, it must be unpacked. That's the whole idea. Joomla lets you install extensions either by installing from the packaged zip file OR from a directory containing the unpacked files. CiviCRM must be installed from directory because it's too large for the Joomla system to unpack and process the installation in a single step.

I did unpack the zip file after uploading it.  I used Joomla! Xplorer to do it.  J1.5 is in legacy mode.  I'm just not sure that I'm entering the correct path.

The path I'm using is:  /myweb.com/jhome/administrator/components/com_installer/com_civicrm/

Should this path end with an .xml file?  If so, I just need to add the file to the path.

Thanks!

The problem is likely with the beginning of your path. You need to enter the full path directory.

Within Joomla, try going to Help > System Info > Configuration File tab

Scroll down to the bottom where you have the log_path value. That should show you the root path. Pick up whatever prefaced directories you're missing and add to the path location in the installer.

Thanks lcdweb,

That was the problem, I wasn't entering the complete path.  I now have a nice install of CiviCRM on my Joomla! 1.5.  Will post back to say how things are going.
