membership export coming up blank
June 04, 2008, 11:52:48 am
When selecting a group of subscribers for export- I select all the records, but the csv file comes up blank. This is only for civimember.
Exports for other modules, and civicrm work fine.
If I search for memberships with advanced search and try and  to export them from there it comes up blank as well.
There are custom data fields associated with membership records.
Anyone have any idea what this might be?

No idea - but have just noted a minor but similar issue on demo which is that an export I was trying to do in order to demonstrate one problem failed because the export contained no data.

I figured out what is happening but not why it is happening. Here are the details:
The person who is having this problem uses multiple-choice custom data fields for her memberships. When she clicks on "Find Members", the membership search screen appears. This screen has some of the standard search fields, like "membership type" for example. It also has two of her custom data fields: "NY-Support level" and "NY Donation Purpose". Both of these fields are multiple-choice and both have a default set but, for some reason, only the NY Support Level field has a default value selected on the search screen.

To perform the member search:
     1. I check the box for the "membership type" she wants ("NY subscriptions")
     2. I scroll down and "unselect" "NY Support Level". This removes the dot from the radio button next to "Other" so now, no value is selected for this field
     3. I click on Search and 2,892 members are found. This is exactly correct
     4. I select "Export members" from "more actions" and the export file contains only the header: no data is present

To get around this I have to click on the plus sign next to "edit search criteria", scroll down and once again unselect the NY Support Level field. I have to do this after I have performed the initial search.

So my questions are:
1. Both "NY Support Level" and "NY donation Purpose"  are multiple-choice custom feilds that have a default value set. Why then does NY support level appear with a value selected but not NY donation purpose?
2. Why do I have to unselect NY support level twice? Seems like the search "forgets" that this was not part of my original search criteria.
3. This is sort of a side issue: There are 3 value options for the NY support level field: "Supporter", "Card" and "Other". "Supporter" is the default value but the value that shows up as being selected on the member search screen is "Other". Any ideas why this would be?

Thanks,
Cynthia

We have figured out the answers to all 3 questions.

1. Both "NY Support Level" and "NY donation Purpose"  are multiple-choice custom feilds that have a default value set. Why then does NY support level appear with a value selected but not NY donation purpose?
       The reason for this is that the NY Support Level field used a value of zero as the "option value" for one of the multiple-choice fields. The search screen appears to be linked to the value of the NY-Supporter level option "other" = 0;
if this value is 1 or any other value, the option is not checked.

2. Why do I have to unselect NY support level twice? Seems like the search "forgets" that this was not part of my original search criteria.
I changed the "option value" for "other" from zero to 1 and that solved the problem: Other was no longer automatically selected.

3. This is sort of a side issue: There are 3 value options for the NY support level field: "Supporter", "Card" and "Other". "Supporter" is the default value but the value that shows up as being selected on the member search screen is "Other". Any ideas why this would be?
    Same reason as listed above.

I will try to duplicate this on the demo and file a bug report if the same behavior occurs.
