I am confused by the latest release of CiviCRM 4.5.6
February 04, 2015, 10:07:46 pm
The announcements prior to the release of CiviCRM 4.5.6 have referred to the release of CiviCRM 4.6 ( https://civicrm.org/blogs/yashodha/announcing-civicrm-46-alpha5-release ).

After updating CiviCRM to the latest release the version is now referred to as CiviCRM 4.5.6.

What is the current release and will there be a CiviCRM 4.6 released soon?

Thanks

joanne

The latest stable release of CiviCRM is version 4.5.6.   You should use a stable release on a production/live website.  The 4.5.6 release announcement (and the 4.4.12 LTS release) is https://civicrm.org/blogs/yashodha/announcing-civicrm-4412-and-456

Since early January there have also been a series of release in the 4.6 version of CiviCRM  with the latest being 4.6 alpha 5  announced in https://civicrm.org/blogs/yashodha/announcing-civicrm-46-alpha5-release.  V4.6 is still early in its testing phase and should not be used on a production/live website.  There could be more alpha releases and will definitely by some beta releases before a stable version of 4.6 is available.

If you want to know when a stable version of 4.6 that can be used on a production/live site will be available, then at this early stage in the 4.6 release cycle the answer is "no-one knows for sure".

I imagine the aim is to release it in April around the time of CiviCon Denver, but alpha and beta testing is about refining new features and identifying and fixing bugs.  How much time that will take cannot be predicted in advance.
