Can't delete price set field due to 'in use' condition?
February 08, 2015, 04:41:14 pm
I tried to remove a price field from a price set, and could not delete due to a 'field in use on an event' warning. Okay, I removed the price set from the event and saved, and I still can't delete the price field from the set due to the same 'in use' error. But the price set is not really in use anywhere now, but I can't delete a field? Is this a known problem with a workaround solution?

I have experienced this is the past and have thought it could be related to already existing registrations using the price set.

I seem to remember that I could disable the price field even though I couldn't delete it.  Have you tried that?

I have tried several things including disabling the event. Nothing works. I have removed the price set from the event, and tried deleting the price set and get this error:

Unable to delete the 'Annual Meeting 2015' price set - it is currently in use by one or more active events or contribution pages or contributions or event templates.

I get a similar error when trying to disable the price set or one of it's fields. I suppose I could delete the event completely and start over but I have a lot of work in it already. Maybe would only take 10 min. or so to redo don't know.

Looks now like I could have an orphaned price set I can't delete.

There appear to be bugs in the CivCRM database programming. I am able to delete field values, fields, and orphaned price sets directly in the database using phpMyAdmin, but not with CiviCRM. (I sort of know what I am doing since I do sql database programming for a living.) I think I have the event set up correctly now. It took hours to walk back the correct rows in the database tables, so I could finally delete the problem price set and create a new one for the event. I think cascading deletes on foreign key relationships would be helpful, but I don't know if mysql offers this.
