Returned date format on a custom field (of type date)

Hello guys,

I have a weird issue happening with a custom date field. This custom field is attached to a custom Relationship type.

I've set it so it has ' dd/mm/yyyy (31/12/2009) '  this format. But when I fetch it using the API the format that is retrieving is completely different 'mm/dd/yyyy'.

Has any one else experienced this issue before?

Perhaps this is a totally ridiculous suggestion - I even hardly know what that API is - but I am wondering if it could be related to https://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-15948 ?

It does not seem to be quite the same nature.

I will post a separate bug report for this issue.
