Getting access to Civi contact database through website, possible?
February 16, 2015, 10:25:36 pm
Hi everyone,

I am quite new to Civi. I understand of course you can embed contact registration fro your Civi database within your website. But can you embed an access point to search that database and get contact info from it still from your website?

To explain we have a "member's corner" password protected portion of our website, and we would like through that portion to give access (without editing permition just viewing) to our contacts data base for them.

I would be very eager to know if that's possible to do and if so how?

Thanks a ton!  ;D
Flo

That is certainly possible. How depends on the CMS you will be using? If you use Drupal, you can display data from your CiviCRM database with Views?

Regardless of CMS you can do this with an embedded profile. It will allow your members to search for other members and display whatever you want in the listing (name, email, phone, etc). It can even display them in a map :)

Thanks guys for these reassuring messages! :) (our CMS is Wordpress) Although could you guide me to posts or video tutorials that explains how to make this embedded profile work and specifically how to :

1) Be able to add contacts/members in Civi through your website (via a form that would show up on one of your website page, in our case would be a password protected page)
2) Be able to search within that contact/member data bata still through your website (via a page with a search box and that would then display contact lists and then contact information, again for us would be password protected page)

(or maybe explain it yourself if there is no good other post or video tutorial on this but don't want to take your time if that wheel is already invented!)

Thanks tons for that!

Have you read the chapter on profiles in our book? http://book.civicrm.org/user/current/organising-your-data/profiles/

There are some nice video tutorials at http://civiteacher.com
Not sure if there's one specifically for that, but they are open to taking requests for new topics.
