ACH / EFT Fees
February 17, 2015, 12:57:25 pm
Hello,

How does anyone reconcile gross versus net online contribution amounts?  The net being less the payment processor's fee.

In example,

An existing (or new) donor enters our website and donates $100 via their credit card.  Civi records a $100 contribution against their CiviID however the bank only reports a credit to our organization's account of, say, $96.50.

We use 3-4 payment processors and who knows how many different types of cards and card issuers so the issue can quickly grow troubling.

I am new to an organization that uses Civi so all help is appreciated.

Many Thanks,

David

I can't think of a way to automate this in CiviCRM. Not all payment processors get that information when connecting to transact. Projects I work with handle it by taking their merchant account statements - and entering the fees - as one amount - in their accounting software. You also e.g. have your $20/mo account fees -> so that needs to go somewhere too - that's part of your gross vs net as well. Think of CiviCRM as a great place to easily collect the monies - think of your accounting software to keep track of fees so that you can calculate your net.
