Contact Address Data is Changed to all Caps when Entered (Solved)
February 20, 2015, 08:34:45 am
Recently when we enter or edit a contact's address data it gets changed to all capital letters.  There must have be changes to our websites that is causing this since it previously worked correctly with the same version of CiviCRM.  We use WordPress and usually issues like are caused by WordPress plugin updates.  However we have a test site with the same versions of WordPress, Plugins and WordPress theme that doesn't exhibit this behavior.  The test site isn't a clone of our production site but it's close.  It has the same software but not all the content from the production site.

The biggest change to our website is the addition of pages and a form for Summer School.  We don't use CiviCRM for this.  We used an embedded JotForm (http://www.jotform.com/) form for this.  It collects address information so conceivably it might interfere with CiviCRM.  However, it's a separate webpage so I don't see how this could happen.  I'll try taking down the form at a suitable time to see if is the cause.

Do you have ideas what could cause this?  Do have ideas on trouble shooting this?

What (if any) extensions do you have installed for Civi and might one of them be the problem?
Try asking your question on the new CiviCRM help site.

We aren't using any CiviCRM extensions.

I finally figured out what is causing this.  About 1.5 years ago I attempted use "Address Standardization".  I registered with the USPS, got the necessarily credentials and configured CiviCRM.  However it didn't work until just recently.  Evidently, the USPS system returns address info in upper case.  This caught me by surprise and I assumed a software bug caused this.

I figured this out after I entered a bad address and I noticed that it was corrected.  Also five digit zip codes get the extra four digits added.  If the USPS is OK with all caps so am I in return for automatic cleanup of addresses.

I can't say what changes and caused "Address Standardization" to start working for us.
