I think I followed the settings documentation but my settings are not being created when the extension is installed.

I created a file in my extension "settings/myext.setting.php". This file contains a php array.
I see that civix has automatically implemented hook_civicrm_settingsFolders

I think that should be all that I have to do going by the examples. Do I have the path wrong or is there anything else I have to do?
If not any ideas where should I look to see if there is something it doesn't like about my array?
