CiviMail

There are a couple of really useful bits of information in CiviMail reports that are a little tricky to store.

1. Who opened the mailing

Knowing who opened a newsletter is useful as you can get a rough idea of which supporters are engaging with you (within the obvious limitations of tracking opens).

You can create a group really easily from the mailing report, which is great, but it's a static group. Because people open the mailing over the space of a few days it means you have to wait a while before you add people to your group, to allow time to ensure you capture most of the opens. A smart group would be even better here as you could set up the group and just leave it to work.

2. What links people clicked on

This is really useful information as it allows supporters to segment themselves - allowing us to tailor content to them and know what campaigns might interest them. It's simple to get a list of who clicked on what in the mailing report by just clicking on the number of people that followed a particular link. The problem is that you can't do anything with that data - there's no option to export it or save them to a group. We've worked out a way to manually get a csv of the data by adding '&output=csv' to the url but it's laborious having to do that for every link. It would be great if there was an option to create a group using that data - even better if it was a smart group.

Ben - Have you experimented with the 'Advanced Search' links from the page accessed by the 'Report' action link in Scheduled & Sent Mailings listing? I "think" you may be able to build smart groups from that flow (caveat - haven't tried it).
