inbound mail
February 24, 2015, 09:50:01 am
Outbound email works fine.  I am trying to get the inbound email set up where it records as an activity to the appropriate account.  I don't understand the directions in the manual.  Can someone provide me a step by step for setting up the inbound?  I will run the schedule to import manually and set up a cron job later.

For email to activity you'll need to:

1. Create an email address to handle email-to-activity
2. In Administer/CiviMail/Mail Accounts add that email address and select email-to-activity as the 'Used-for?' selection
3. In scheduled jobs, make sure you're running 'Process inbound emails' every 15 minutes or so

Then you can use that email address as a cc or bcc and the email will be lodged as an activity.  But.. only for individuals - doesn't work for organisations.

There are several links with varying amounts of detail:
http://book.civicrm.org/user/advanced-configuration/email-system-configuration/
http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/CiviMail+Installation
http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC40/Step-by-step+Return+Channel+on+Drupal+-+Google+Apps+-+CentOS

There are many possible configurations, but at very high level, you create a mailbox somewhere with the address you want to use, then give Civi the  details to access that account.

What have you tried so far?  What mail system is hosting the mailbox?
