Sync members with WP users
March 02, 2015, 07:45:26 pm
Hi all,

We are in the process or working out Civi integration with WordPress.

We need to port a large amount of membership data over from another system and I'm confused as to how the integration of users and members works.

From various forum sources we worked out a signup form using a "profile" which appears to have an option to create WP users but we haven't been able to make that work. It creates a member profile, but no WP subscriber.

(the purpose of the WP subscriber is we need to have members-only pages on the site).

Questions:
- What is the required workflow to sign up a new user (i.e. what form/mechanism is used)?
- How do how does a user update their password? Is it through the WP mechanism?
- When importing existing users from another system, how do we ensure that these users have matching WP logins?

We are currently trialling CiviCRM 4.6 beta 1.

I wasn't able to find any documentation specific to WordPress apart from the install guide. All pointers gratefully received!

Thanks,
Chris

You're going to need a member sync plugin. Since you're on 4.6.n you can try:

https://wordpress.org/plugins/civicrm-wp-member-sync/

IIRC, this auto-creates a WP user when a membership is applied to a contact.
