I essentially want users to be able to pay membership dues (using civicontribute) at the same time when they are registering for a new account in drupal. My drupal site will have a member's only section to those who have paid their membership fees. Is there another way to integrate payment during the registering process using civicontribute??

You can include an option to create a Drupal account while making a contribution by embedding a Profile in the contribution page and checking the Setting for "Drupal account registration". Check out the docs for more info:
