GSoC project idea Integration with google analytics & A/B testing
March 05, 2015, 06:25:47 am
Hello,

I'm interested in project Integration with google analytics & A/B testing. Currently I've setup a basic Civi installation and am reading through the documentation.

Can you tell me how could I get deeper into this project (may be by suggesting some pre-soc task)?

Also, I just wanted to discuss the project description (point wise) so that I could be sure that I got it correctly.

As specified, it has 3 parts. Part 1 is simple ans straightforward.
In second part I suppose we have to use Google Analytics API to fetch data (easy) but how're we supposed to know umber of registered users?
Also, in the 3rd part I guess we should provide the author to set utm tags for different versions pages and later track the same based on those tags.

Please let me know if I'm missing something.

Thanks,
Gajender

Hi Gajender,

Thanks for your interest. This year, we'll indeed see how the students are involved in the community and know the projects to help us select the most motivated and competent ones.

Try to install a development version of civicrm (using civicrm buildkit) and try to identify already what part you might need to extend (eg. where the urls are generated in your project).

Do you have experience already with google analytics?

I'm not sure I understand your question about registered users.

as much as possible, we'll automatically generate the utm tags based on the context where we generate the url. It would be great for the a/b testing you have a look at existing javascript libraries see if there is something we can easily integrate.

Does it make sense?

Quick reminder, not sure if the student(s) interested have done it already for this project, but you have to register and submit the proposal before tomorrow

If it's done already, all good, we'll discuss internally and with you and let you learn better our development workflow and tools we use and give you a chance to mingle with the community
