Is CiviCRM the right fit for my small nonprofit?
March 10, 2015, 08:56:32 am
My nonprofit doesn't currently use a CRM or even much of a database - our contacts (volunteer list) are stored in our Gmail contact list, and all of our donor (donation) information is stored in our Quickbooks program.

I haven't installed CiviCRM yet, but I like what I see. We host through Joomla, so that shoudn't be an issue. I also understand that initial set up will require a substantial amount of formatting done by someone with computer skills  - I will be doing this.

After the initial set up, is there large amount of programming required? Does CiviCRM communicate with Quickbooks, or would we have to manually upload files periodically?

I love that CiviCRM has mail, event, grant ect... Are we able to have volunteers sign up for an event without signing into CiviCRM as a user?

Are we able to directly link to a CiviEvent from our website?

I know these are a number of questions, and from multiple areas of expertise. I appreciate all help.

Thank you,
Dave Meyers

Hi dave

Welcome to CiviCRM!

No programming required.

There is some stuff about integrating with Quickbooks, but not that I'm familiar with, so I'l leave others to comment on that.

Yes, volunteers can sign up for an event without having a user account on your website. Also check out the  CiviVolunteer extension, which might be of interest.

Yes you can directly link to to a CiviEvent from your website. I'm not too familiar with the Joomla integration features, but certainly in Drupal and Wordpress Civi will produce an information page for you, and a registration page, and handle all the pain of registering people for your events.

If you've not tried it yet, there';s a Joomla/Civi demo site at https://civicrm.org/go/demo

Hope this helps

Regards
Graham

I don't think so. In many cases, you can use CiviCRM right out of the box. The Contact import sometimes is a bit tricky but if you have just names and emails, it should be very easy.

Hi Dave,

I will second the thoughts of Hershel and Graham. We have done a number of integrations with Joomla and they all are running fine.

Are we able to directly link to a CiviEvent from our website?

If your website is based on Joomla and that's where you install CiviCRM, you have the option of linking to one event from a menu item or an event list to a menu item. If your website is elsewhere you can take a link and put it in to your website.

One of our client who process event registrations around the world with CiviCRM for their annual conference do the same. Their website is hosted and managed by another company and we look after Joomla+CiviCRM only.
