Business Directory using Organization records, possible?
March 10, 2015, 11:52:50 am
As part of a Joomla site, I am trying to set up a Business Exchange, a Business Directory which will allow users to browse or search for businesses that offer certain services or are located in a particular area or, ....

SobiPro offers something like that, but uses its own tables.

The goal is to use the existing CiviCRM data, but display ( a subset ) in this format.

Is this a Report, some kind of Profile, or something else?   Has somebody else done this that I can build on ( an extension? ) or am I stuck with using XTDir or something else outside of CiviCRM?

Thanks,
Brian

civi allows you to set up a Profile as a 'listing' - you should find that easy enough in the manual.

with joomla i don't know of other tricks. in drupal i would be recommending using Views.

hth brief as it is

Thank you.

I followed the instructions and examples in http://book.civicrm.org/user/current/organising-your-data/profiles/ and was able to create a Joomla Menu item that shows my new Profile.

However, the Default Page is the Search Form.  Is it possible to have it show an unfiltered list of records with a "Search" button, rather than the Search Form, as the Default?

Also, is it possible to change how records are displayed without digging into core code?

Thanks,
Brian

P.S. Is it possible in this Forum to move or copy this thread to a more appropriate place, like Using Profiles?
