Domain Information - what to do when you have split personality organisation
June 09, 2008, 02:59:58 am
Hey - we need to be seen as have two 'base' organisations, one being the Party and one being the Parliamentary Team. When we are doing a civiMail from one of our MPs we want to have our Parliamentary Team details in the {domain.address} - and when from the Party side we need their details to show - but I can't see that we have any option here. There seems to be only 'one' setting.

Thoughts?

This may be a case when more than one domain using most of the same contact tables would make sense. You could have two civicrm installations, one for the party and one for the MPs, with all the core CiviCRM stuff shared, but different tables for CiviMail and Settings.

Peter - I'm pretty sure your use case will be handled by the Multi-org functionality that USPIRG is sponsoring. It's a Phase 2 item for them so the plan is to include it in the 2.2 release cycle. Check out the Phase 2 summary on this page:

http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRM/USPIRG+Project

... and the linked details on Multi-org support.

Thinking about an interim work-around, one thought would be to modify the mailing form rule to eliminate the requirement for {domain.address} token - and then include the two different addresses in different footers. You'd probably also need to add some config parameter so that the correct footer is defaulted depending on the user or ??

Thanks both - Joe I was wondering if we might need to look at this but was concerned that this would bring up a whole raft of other issues.  Dave - thanks for the suggested workaround. That plus templates should get us sorted.
