Mapping non-primary locations
June 09, 2008, 10:11:06 pm
Hey - so if we set someone to their PO Box (ie Postal) location for their primary (that is where mailings should go), how can we get their home location to Map?

I thought if i uses in Adv Search : Location Type = Home it would find me a Home location even if this was not the primary location. But that isn't how it works (i don't think the description is clear)

I would hope this would enable us to 'force' the home addresses out for those who have work or postal as primary. Did you expect this option to allow this, or simply to limit the 'primary' location to the box I tick (in my case Home)

You can test this on Demo for Test2, pete. Has Work as Primary and an additional location for Home

Adv Search Name = Test2
Gives a result showing the work address.

When I edit my search criteria to stipulate 'home' location, it says ' no record found'

If that is what is intended I suggest a change to script to say
"Location search uses the PRIMARY location for each contact by default. To search by specific PRIMARY location types (e.g. Home, Work...), check one or more boxes above.

This seems like a bug to me. Checking Home should grab that location type.

well i will put it on bug tracker if lobo doesn't hop on and say this is intended behaviour - and if the latter i guess it does on feature requests ;-)

filed and fixed at: http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-3196

the patch is quite easy, so chris can probably patch your 2.0 codebase also

Hey great - that will be really helpful as we end up with more and more 'work' addresses as primary when we actually want to know/show where they live. choice.
