I want to allow unauthenticated users to register for events but also force them to create an account DURING the process. Is there a way to do this?

I didn't find a way to do this when I investigated but would like to see it as an option

Assuming you're using Drupal... including a CiviCRM Profile in the event registration page and enabling the "Drupal Registration" option in the profile settings will "allow" (but not force) users to signup for an account while registering.

You might be able to force this by creating a custom copy of the registration template and modifying the template file to replace the "Create an Account" checkbox with a hidden field, and unhide the Username field.
