Pulling in existing contact reference fields
March 31, 2015, 04:35:08 am
On Individual contacts we are have a custom field for their Local Party of type - contact reference (Autocomplete-Select) .

I am doing a webform for Individuals and I want to show them the value of this Local Party field from their record. I have tried adding a second contact to the webform and setting that as the value of Local Party on contact 1 - but I can see there is nothing really linking the 2 contacts (there's no relationship).

My question is basically, is there a way to pull in the existing value of this custom, contact reference field for contact 1 on the webform?

Thanks!

FYI we're starting to migrate away from these forums, so asking on SE is preferable.
But I'll be nice and answer here :)

The short answer is "no". Webforms does not currently have the ability to pre-populate a contact based on a custom field.
It would be a nice feature to add... something your client could sponsor?

OK thanks Coleman. What is SE?

I will ask my client. Person-hours/cost involved? Email me with answer if you prefer...

I think it would be a 3-5 hour project. Core-team developer rates are $150/hr.

Re SE, it's in my signature :)

Otherwise can you rethink your data input so that Local Party is based on a Relationship?

Thanks Peter, but this is an old and huge site - things don't get rethunk very often  :P
