if you have imported a specific contribution and want to update then you must have the id otherwise civi doesn't know what you are trying to update
after all there could be lots of contributions for contact x.

if you are importing new contributions then civi creates the Contribution ID that is why you don't need it.

not sure that helps. perhaps you can supply an example of what you are trying to do.

thanks for your replay sir,

do you mean , the contribution id is automatically created by system ( civicrm )? if so, how can i find the contribution id ?
and also, that mean , i must to add the contribution id to all my data which want to update?

thanks in advance

yes civi will create an id for most things ;-)

if you want to look at a single contribution and know the id, just mouse over the 'view' or 'edit' next to it on the contacts Contribution tab.

if you want a list of them, i would find the relevant contributions and export (as contributions not as contacts) and I would expect the export to allow you to select and include the Contribution ID.

good luck
