petitions and profiles

Using a petition because I can't post a profile that combines contact and activity information (which is silly but that's another discussion). 

I have setup the peritition's contact profile to send a notification email and add the user to specific group.  Neither of these actions seem to occur when the profile is part of a petition.  However some settings (like recaptcha) DO seem to persist.
