how to update contact from import

i have imported contact to my civicrm, but there is some thing change to them (example : phone number, address, but i ) and saved in csv file. now i want to update contact in system, through import the csv file which changed.


i tried to update them from import used dedupe rule, but what happen is that those contact is imported no update. before there are 3 contact now there are 6,

could any one guide me, please ?

When you did your first import did you import an External ID? If so it would be good to import using that for your matching contact.

btw , i see in contact id ( required ) when importing new contribution, but in my data i only have extertenal id, can i change contact id to be not required, is there problem if do so ?

i think the import is indicating that EITHER internal id, or external id, etc are required. not both

contact ID is not required -- you simply must have *some* valid way to match to the contact. that can be with the contact ID, external ID, or email.
