Can't update email in 4.6.0
April 08, 2015, 05:43:39 am
When trying to send a bulk email, my normal routine that always worked prior to 4.60 was to choose one of my saved templates and then make minor edits and then proceed to send.

Now any changes made on the template do not save when:
1) save as draft.
2) send test email.

So now I'm dead in the water with this version and can't send any emails to my members.

This will be fixed in 4.6.1 or you can backport the patch yourself from https://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-16238
Try asking your question on the new CiviCRM help site.

I'm not sure I follow -- is this saying that:

a) The draft mailing isn't saved at all? In this case, check the Javascript console for errors. (There's more discussion about this kind of error checking in http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,35850.0.html ).

b) The draft-mailing is saved, but the old template is not updated. To update the template, click the save icon next to the template's name.

It's not a javascript error, regardless of any edits I make and whether, I click on Save as Draft, or click next and send out, the changes made to the html text area are not saving. Even test emails, come to you with the content that was in the html text area before you made changes.

Without the ability to get an error message, to see your system in action, or to reproduce on my system, it's pretty hard to diagnose. Some more questions:

1: Do you have the same problems if you compose a fresh message (without using templates)?

2: If you use the "Preview HTML" or "Preview Text" button, does it display the correct content?

3: If you log into http://d46.demo.civicrm.org/ and compose a message, does the "Save Draft" work correctly? (Note: To prevent abuse/spam, the demo sites never send real emails.)

4: Look for the file "Config.IDS.ini" (eg in Drupal, this is usually sites/default/files/civicrm/ConfigAndLog/Config.IDS.ini; in Unix CLI, one can search with "find -name Config.IDS.ini"). Delete the file and retry. Civi will regenerate the file as needed. (There was a similar issue during dev where complex emails wouldn't save because of an IDS configuration issue. This was patched, but maybe there was a problem in getting the new Config.IDS.ini loaded/generated.

5: The JS console will sometimes display more errors if it's open before opening the problematic page opens. If one opens the console after the page is open, it may miss the errors.

I will get your more info on my site installation tomorrow, but just went to your Joomla demo site, and you it's throwing javascript errors saying it can't save.

Now this isnt the same issue I have, but I am unable to get to the point of testing with the demo site's javascript errors that are occuring within CiviMail with 4.6.0 and Joomla.

Answering your questions:

1: Do you have the same problems if you compose a fresh message (without using templates)? No - if I open an email and copy and existing template (via html source) and then start another brand new email and use it without selecting a template, it seems to work. So there must be something wrong with Sending and Saving (it saves Saving, but doesn't - no javascript errors appear in debug mode) any edits from an existing template (they never save).

2: If you use the "Preview HTML" or "Preview Text" button, does it display the correct content? Not if I make edits to existing saved template.

3: If you log into http://d46.demo.civicrm.org/ and compose a message, does the "Save Draft" work correctly? (Note: To prevent abuse/spam, the demo sites never send real emails.) - I use Joomla, not Drupal, but as previously reported Joomla demo is having javascript errors.

- I found this file and deleted it. It was under civicrm/media/ConfigandLog/

5: The JS console will sometimes display more errors if it's open before opening the problematic page opens. If one opens the console after the page is open, it may miss the errors. - No errors seen.

The error you saw on http://joomla.demo.civicrm.org was caused by the Config.IDS.ini issue. That's resolved. FWIW, loading a template and saving a draft works for me on that site. It would still help for you try there again. (If it doesn't work for you, then it suggests a discrepancy between your browser and my browser. If it works for you on joomla.demo.civicrm.org, then that suggests some discrepancy between the demo server and your server.)
