Grab bag of problems, missing icons, foreign key errors
June 05, 2007, 08:20:45 am
Hi, after bashing away for about three days I am stuck. I had installed Civicrm (1.7.9379) on a production site and all seemed to be working fine. At some point, after the configuration of other site elements the Civicrm installation began to exhibit the missing icon issue discussed here and elsewhere. The resource url setting and the domain settings are both right. Just for kicks I tried changing the resource url from absolute to relative, but it didn't seem to take. The other odd thing, was that an attempt to display an icon directly through its url didn't work, civicrm seemed to intercept the url call and return me to the main page.

After trying just about every solution under the sun mentioned in other posts I pulled it out drop the database, file directories and tried reinstalling version 1.7.9682. On the database imports I got foreign key errors when trying to import the "generated" data file, if I imported the "data" file I would get foreign key errors when trying to synch the existing drupal users.

So I pulled it and reinstalled .9379 again, same issues with the data files.

A couple of other symptoms that I think are related are: the "dropping or mysterious disabling" of components: contribute, events and memberships. The dashboard page seems to draw at about half width (large margin on right side).

Another bit of information that may be relevant, I left things more or less working except for the synch users foreign key issue. A new user signed up and all seemed to go well, all components were enable and icons in place.

This morning as I go to tackle the foreign key problem once again, the three components are disabled (and don't appear on the main civicrm page). The icons have disappeared again except for one on the global settings page at the top where it lists recent users. One of the recent users has an icon, the other doesn't. A look at the code shows that the one that is showing is an absolute url which includes the site address, and the one that doesn't is a relative url that starts at the "i" directory.

I am running Drupal 5.2 from the development CVS about 3 weeks old with Clean Urls enabled, and I suspect some rewrite problems. I also have an embedded Gallery 2 installation which hits the .htaccess file with a few of its own url rewrite lines. I can't see a problem here, but I am fairly new to linux servers.

In any event, this is beginning to drive me nuts. We launched wed. and only have about a dozen users at this point, but I'd like to get to the root of this before things grow.

Any ideas?

thanks,
Troy

A further question on solution strategy, I need to be careful because I'm working with a production site. I am developing a suspision that the enbedded Gallery 2 in my drupal, which trades user info and appends the .htaccess for Url rewrites, may be partly at fault.

I can't just turn it off at the moment, it is a fairly key feature of the production site. Is anyone else running Gallery2 and Civicrm peacefully together in a Drupal 5?

From what you wrote above, it does seem to be an URL rewriting problem. Can you try setting up a mirror site with just Drupal and CiviCRM (without Gallery) and see whether this setup works?
If you found the above helpful, please consider helping us in return – you can even steer CiviCRM’s future and help us extend CiviCRM in ways useful to you.
