Export VCF file for multiple contacts

Hey - this may need to be a feature request, or maybe not. How could we export several contacts as a single VCF file (for VCards)?
Given that we can export a single user as a VCard I am assuming it won't be that hard to crack. And it would mean that we could export a set of contacts in to Outlook from CiviCRM. Would this be something others would be interested in seeing in the More Actions drop down?

Or could this be achieved just through a particular Export Mapping?

This is definitely a "feature request" (or contribution of code). I would probably see this is a "format choice" during the export:
[ ] Comma-separated
[ ] Vcard

... and eventually we might add other formats like XML.

I suspect that some elements which can be exported might NOT fit in the Vcard format - so some filtering might be needed (or that format might only spit out a fixed set of fields ??

This might be a good item in the "More Actions" task list since VCF is a very fixed format. Or could also be done with the radio button in export:

[] Export Primary Fields
[] Export VCF Entries
[] Select Fields to Export

Doing it as a separate Action will allow us to make that whole aspect pluggable so developers can add their own tasks. If chris is going to code this, i'll make that aspect extensible in 2.1 (which he should be able to backport to 2.0 quite easily)

Thanks - we'll have to look at what the VCard button does as a query and see if we can implement it as part of export. Low on our list though but had been asked by our users and can see the advantage of it.

I want to bring this back up, even though I know it's old. I think this would be tremendously useful, and I still don't see any way to do it. Am I missing it, or should I go ahead and post a feature request?

Hi,

You can post a feature request, but that's very likely to work better if you attach a patch ;)

There is already a hook to change the format of export, It would be great if you can contribute financially to extend it so we can have a list of formats (csv, excel, VCF) that can be configured and offered as an option in the last step.

(shouldn't be too complicated to do)
