Upgrade from civiCRM 4.5.6 to 4.6 on Drupal 7.36 failure
April 13, 2015, 03:12:05 pm
First I updated Drupal, then updated civiCRM. When finished I was unable to view activities from a search or manage cases. I reverted back to before the Drupal update but still had the same problems after ugrading civiCRM.

I followed the upgrade directions liked below (repeated 3 times just to make sure). The only question was regarding PCRE and unicode support (see below)
http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Upgrade+Drupal+Sites+to+4.6+-+Drupal+7

OS: Linux Mint 17.1
Apache: 2.4.7 (Ubuntu)
PHP: 5.5.9-1ubuntu4.6
Innodb support is enabled
    checked with phpMyAdmin SQL: SELECT SUPPORT FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.ENGINES WHERE ENGINE = 'InnoDB';
PCRE: Installed packages: libpcre3, libpcre3:i386
    cmd: php -i shows
        PCRE (Perl Compatible Regular Expressions) Support => enabled
        PCRE Library Version => 8.31 2012-07-06
    But nothing about Unicode properties
    The link recommended on the upgrade page (http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,9316.0.html)
    is not enough information to help me determine if Unicode is supported
CiviCRM location: /var/www/drupal/sites/all/modules/contrib/civicrm

When I clicked the "upgrade now" on CiviCRM I got:

Sorry but we are not able to provide this at the moment.
DB Error: syntax error
Return to home page.

After I reset Drupal and I went to my CiviCRM dashboard CiviCRM reported at the bottom of the page it was version 5.6

When I clicked "search" from 'find activities' OR clicked on a link to manage a Case I got:

Sorry but we are not able to provide this at the moment.
DB Error: no such table
Return to home page.

Links to Contacts work, I can view contact info but not not cases or activities.

I went back to a snapshot (I am using VirtualBox) from before updating Drupal and tried again to update CiviCRM.
I got the same messages.

Hope that's enough to give someone a clue about what's going on with my installation and upgrade.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give. John in Medford, Oregon

Can you enable debugging to get a fuller error message?
