"Not Attending" RSVP Option

Perhaps I'm missing something crucial, but I can't seem to figure out a way to allow invitees to state that they are "Not Attending" on the registration page.

You can create a custom "Participant Status" at civicrm/admin/participant_status (via the menu at Administer > CiviEvent > Participant Statuses).

Then you can add a Participant Role field to a Profile that is added in the "Online Registration" section. Per the help bubble beside "Participant Role" in the "Info and Settings" tab:

You can also allow people to choose a Role by creating a Profile with the Participant Role field. Then include that Profile when you configure the Online Registration page for this event.

I got confused but I think Laryn updated his answer and now refers to adding a Participant Status field, not a Participant Role. Mentioning it here to avoid people going down the wrong rabbit hole
