CiviMail (4.6.2) user interface issues/comments
April 21, 2015, 01:33:46 pm
As I mentioned in an earlier message, I like the new tabbed user interface in CiviMail (4.6.2).  Still, I've noticed a few small rough edges that could use a little sandpaper.

1. When sending a test message, there needs to be a confirmation pop-up when the message has been sent.  One could easily miss the brief "Sending..." in the upper right.  That is to say, I missed it.  ::)

2. On the message composition screen, the presence of the "Next" button at the bottom is IMO both confusing and unnecessary.  One must click this button at least once in order to activate the "Review and Schedule" tab.  I'd prefer to have the "Review and Schedule" tab active (clickable) at the outset (or at least after any errors had been resolved), and eliminate the "Next" button altogether.

3. This one's pretty trivial. :-[  The lower part of the composition screen is a bit crowded, with the two "Send Test" buttons bleeding over the bottom border line and overlapping the "Delete Draft" button (see attached screen clip).  This I realize is somewhat browser dependent.  The attached image is with Firefox 37; the "Send Test and "Delete Draft" buttons don't overlap under Safari, but there's still a small overlap with the bottom edge line.

You might find it interesting to change the URL while editing the screen:

  • "civicrm/a/#/mailing/123" -- Default layout (2-step)
  • "civicrm/a/#/mailing/123/unified" -- Single-page layout (tabs)
  • "civicrm/a/#/mailing/123/unified2" -- Single-page layout (accordions)
  • "civicrm/a/#/mailing/123/wizard" -- 3-step layout

We didn't have to implement any kind of policy mechanism for selecting or overriding layouts, but most of the groundwork is there.
