Message templates not appearing when emailing a contact

I upgraded a client system from 4.6.12 to 4.5.8 at the weekend and now message templates are not appearing when a user creates an email (regular or bulk). You can pick a template but nothing appears. In Administer/CiviMail/Message Templates all the templates are there, and can be edited & saved. My other upgrades to 4.5.8 have not shown this problem so I am puzzled - I've cleared the Drupal caches and CiviCRM caches.

I asked this on Stack Exchange today but no answers so far...

those numbers sound wrong - general suggestion would be you should be heading for 4.6.x rather than upgrading to 4.5.x

yeah i guessed - but not sure you will get much support for mailing probs on 4.5 tbh

you have the LTS 4.4.x series and the 4.6 current series to choose from really ;-)
