localization on wordpress

Hi everyone!

I'm trying to translate civicrm into french but can't figure out how to do it.
I tried to put the l10n and sql folders in wp-content/plugins/civicrm/ and in wp-content/plugins/civicrm/languages. I also tried to put the fr_FR subfolder directly in these folder and directly the l10n/fr_FR/LC_MESSAGES/civicrm.mo file in the same places.
I also tried to chown these files and folders to www-data and to run a chmod 777 on them...
In the admin, only the default english appears, whatever what I try.
I checked the doc but I couldn't find the wordpress documentation (I just found for joomla and drupal).
Can you help please?

Hi (salut!),

The official documentation about the installation of the l10n files is here:

(agreed, this documentation is not very clear)

In short, you need to decompress the civicrm-4.6.x-l10n.tar.gz archive in the same directory as where you decompressed civicrm-4.6.x-wordpress.tar.gz.

This should create:

plugins/civicrm/l10n
plugins/civicrm/l10n/fr_FR/LC_MESSAGES/civicrm.mo
plugins/civicrm/sql/civicrm_data_fr_FR.sql
etc

Once that is done, you should have the option to install CiviCRM directly in French during the installation.

Thanks for your reply. However I already tried that... And it doesn't work...
Actually I'm thinking of something, does the language needs to be installed at installation time necessarily?
As it was not working, I got ahead and installed it in english thinking I would simply translate it later. But now I'm thinking maybe this needs to be installed at installation time?
When I go to civicrm settings, the dropdown only lets me pick english, even if the french translations file are present (andall other languages actually).

Please help.

Hi,

You can switch the language later on, but there are a lot of configurations that would have to be manually translated. It is strongly recommended to install directly in French.

I had a quick look, and seems like in Wordpress, you should have the following structure:

plugins/civicrm/civicrm/l10n
plugins/civicrm/civicrm/l10n/fr_FR/LC_MESSAGES/civicrm.mo
plugins/civicrm/civicrm/sql/civicrm_data_fr_FR.sql
etc
