New Contacts have `preferred_mail_format`=NULL
January 29, 2016, 05:38:37 am
Dear CiviCRM Team,

on my 4.7 Installation on Wordpress I have noticed that new contacts created via the menu option New Contact. have a default value of NULL in the field preferred_mail_format. In this case it seems CiviCRM is sending emails with empty body means no text.

MySQL has a default value of Both for this field.

Can anybody replicate this behaviour? Is this a bug or a feature?  :)

Alain

Hi,

I can reproduce this when changing the name or email of a contact. The preferred_mail_format is the set to NULL. I have the feeling this could be related to the Issue I had with prefix (see my post 3 weeks ago). I am still on a german installation. However in this case I could not find an entry in the table civicrm_option_value.

thx,
Alain

I use CiviCRM under Wp 4.4. From civi 4.7 I met the problem in sending mass mails. The sent mail plus bunce number is lees than expected mailings numbers. (I use only Hungarian version). The not sent email is "unknown" state.

Your findigs possible caused my problems, checked only one  contact, the settings is "none". If I set it as "Both" and save it, the settings sticks. When I reopen  communication references the Email format switch to "none". I don't understand what happens.
Or If I send direct mail to contact, the empty mail arrives.

I tested in http://wpmaster.demo.civicrm.org with "English" default language, the problem not happens. I tested in my test systems, under Hungarian language settings, the problems is same, in Email format switch to "none" state.

In demo Drupal  site, switched site language to "Hungarian", created new user testhu testhu, the preferred mail set to none.

I submitted issue: https://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-18037
