Location of civicrm.settings.php
June 22, 2008, 04:33:04 am
I have got a bit confused here. I've installed civCRM in sites/all/modules but now get this error message:

The CiviCRM settings file (civicrm.settings.php) was not found in the expected location (sites/default/civicrm.settings.php)

I don't seem to have this file in the location indicated. Should this have been done automatically? Or is there something I need to do.

I am also getting this error message:

    * warning: include_once(sites/default/civicrm.settings.php) [function.include-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/c/a/xxxxx/public_html/sites/all/modules/drupal/civicrm.module on line 241.
    * warning: include_once() [function.include]: Failed opening 'sites/default/civicrm.settings.php' for inclusion (include_path='.:/usr/share/php:/usr/share/pear') in /home/c/a/xxxxxxx/public_html/sites/all/modules/drupal/civicrm.module on line 241.

What is this telling me?

Thanks.

Hi Dave,

What version of CiviCRM are you running and how did you install it (through the auto wizard or manually)?? When the automated 2.0 installer runs, it generally will put the civicrm.settings.php file in the proper location.

If you did the automated installer, did you read all the checklist and make sure everything was OK? It sounds like one of the checklist pieces may not have been successful (like writing to the sites/default directory to put the civicrm.settings.php file there), and that's why it isn't there.

So if you were installing CiviCRM 2.0 from scratch using the automated installer, I would remove CiviCRM and just start over (assuming you don't have any important data in there and weren't upgrading). If you do start over, follow these instructions carefully: http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Install+2.0+for+Drupal. When you get to the installer screen and fill in your DB info, make sure you click the "Recheck Requirements" button (not the 'check requirements and install' button) and scroll down the page making sure you don't have any other issues/errors. If everything is green and giving you the go ahead, then try to install it.

If you don't reinstall or can't for some reason, keep reading.

Your error messages are all indicating that the file isn't there. So check in the civicrm root folder (sites/all/modules/civicrm) for it. If you see it, move it to <drupal_root>/sites/default/. You'll want to open the file and make sure your database settings and file paths are correct....

If you don't see it, but instead see a sample version of the file, then you may need to make a copy of that file (naming the copy civicrm.settings.php) and putting the copy in the sites/default/ folder. You will then have to edit the file, following the instructions on how to do so here: http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Install+2.0+for+Drupal+Manually#Install2.0forDrupalManually-6.EditCiviCRMConfigurationFile

Thanks for the comprehensive reply. I'll look through all of this and see what I can fix. You've given me lots of pointers that I hope will sort the problem.

Just to bring you up to date ... I did a fresh re-install and followed through with the automatic set-up. It all went very well and all seems to be working now.

Thanks.
