Edit Form missing demographics
June 25, 2008, 12:20:56 pm
I just noticed that in my 2.0.4 installation on the edit form I don't have a demographics section. But in Global Settings > Site preferences I do have that option checked in demographics. I am attaching a screenshot of what my site preferences looks like. My org just decided to start using this, so I can't say how long it's been like this, but I had an issue with activity history not showing up on advanced search even though it was checked before that was a result of the 2.0 upgrade. Am assuming this is part of the same thing.

Oddly, I also noticed in my site preferences on advanced search I have a check box for 'kabissa'....this isn't on the demo. what is it (when I check it, nothing changes on my advanced search form)?

I upgraded when 2.0 stable first came out.

Based on feedback and problems reported, upgrade script went through lot of changes moving from 2.0 to 2.0.4. It might be worth giving it a try since i remember there were some corrections related to "preferences" and some major corrections related to "activities" and "activity history".

So you're saying I should re run the script on my 2.0.4 install? Should I do it in my browser through the upgrade interface or via command line?

Yes, via browser. But since it would be 1.9 -> 2.0.4 upgrade it 'll require you to have 1.9 db. And you will need to follow the same steps again - http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Upgrade+Drupal+Sites+to+2.0.

Note: Do this as another separate install, Just to make sure don't mess up /w your current working copy.

OK, sorry to keep double-checking but this process is a little funky. So you are saying I need to REVERT my db to 1.9? You don't mean I am supposed to go back to my database from 4 months ago before I upgraded right (that is definitely not an option!)? You just mean take my current version 2 db (on a dev site, not production obviously) and reset it to 1.9?  Is that really possible?

I had already run this script here back when 2.0.2 came out:

Nope, it's not possible to revert your db.

You could try this as another install if you have 1.9 db copy, just to check if the problem you mentioned is addressed by latest upgrade script. If it does you will have to find some way of migrating the current records (2.0.2) you have in the upgraded db (2.0.4). And if it looks impossible / difficult, i have no idea how to help you out :(. May be you could try looking at upgrade script code related to preferences and activity-history and see if you could do anything at db level.

i suspect we will need to fix your db manually and figure out what the preferences table is etc. Can you please email me your db and i'll take a look at it

The two issues are: 1. no demographics sections in edit form, and kabissa in advanced search options?

alternatively if i get ssh access to your box, i can login and fix. please contact me on IM / IRC

thanx

Coincidentally, I was just forced to revert my org's DB to this Monday because of a separate user-based issue which destroyed many contact/user records. Bad news aside, the good news is the demographics are back. I have no idea why, and I cannot give any explanation whatsoever.

Bad news for the org is good news for CiviCRM in this case....

Thanks for the help :)

Emily - If you can give us enough specifics about what happened (on a new thread) - and any suggestions as to how major data loss events can be avoided or the likelihood lessened - we can all put on our thinking caps on this for a future enhancement.
