Price set validation rules I
June 26, 2008, 07:14:30 am
I am evaluating CiviCRM for a nonprofit. There main event is a 4 day conference.  Part of the registration options is choosing what type of guest room the registrant will want (single, double, 1 King, etc....). We are trying to make sure that people who have 2 registrants get two rooms or a double room etc. Is there a way to limit price options based on selections.

The next question is there a way to do this same kind of validation against multiple records - for example two individuals want to share a room. If this is not possibles, can you split payment so that you pay half and half.

Thanks,
Steve

You should be able to use Event "Price Set" to (mostly) handle this. You could set up a Price Set field (probably radio button type) for Guest Room Type - with different options / prices for each type of room.

The sharing / double occupancy is trickier - you could include "Single Occupancy" and "Double Occupancy" options for the relevant room types - and maybe a separate Participant custom field for Room-mate Name ...? You can also use a Price Set field to allow one person to  pay for > 1 participant (but you're only getting count here).

In 2.1, you'll be able to have one person register for multiple participants and CiviEvent will create separate participant records with whatever info you collect (name, food preferences, room type etc.) for EACH. You'll have to play with this a bit to see if you can get it to handle what you need with regard to room sharing (or if that's even how you want it to work). You can try stuff out on the 2.1 sandbox - http://sandbox.civicrm.org.
