Using file field types in contribution pages
June 28, 2008, 03:35:16 pm
I had difficulty getting the file field type to work on my Drupal 5.7/CiviCRM 1.9 web site, so I tried to reproduce the problem using the CiviCRM 2.0 test site.

I want to create a contribution page, and include the ability to upload a file as part of making the contribution.  The purpose is that the contribution is for a "tribute book" to be published as part of an event, and we want contributors to be able to specify either text to put in their tribute, or to upload a file that contains camera-ready copy to be put in their tribute, along with their making a contribution.

I created a Custom Data group, Book.  In Book, I created two fields.  One is text type, and the second, Book File, is a file type.

I created a CiviCRM Profile, Tribute Book, and used the custom data group Book, and the two fields in that profile.

I created a Contribution Page, Tribute Book, and included the profile, Tribute Book, in it.

When I test drive this page, and fill in the needed fields, and use Browse to find the file I want to include, and then click Continue, when I get to the verify screen, the file field has disappeared.  I can't get the test system to go on from this point, but I did go on with my live system.  If I go on and make the contribution, the field is still blank and my uploaded file appears missing.

How can I upload a file as part of making a contribution?

We dont support 'file upload' in contribution/event pages. We should warn the user about this if they include a profile which has a file type

we hope to fix it in a future release

Thanks for the fast response, even tho it wasn't the answer I had hoped for.

Where can the file upload be used?

it can be used in a standalone profile edit/create form. It can also be used on the internal civicrm forms where the custom field is displayed
