Curious about CAN-SPAM
July 09, 2008, 12:10:27 pm
My web host (Dreamhost) is super rigorous about CAN-SPAM compliance. I see in your wiki that DH is one place where people are using CiviCRM.

Lobo, does your reply in http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,850.0.html mean that CiviCRM is compliant with CAN-SPAM? Any gaps?

I'm hoping they will raise their shell limit (since my list is only 400ish contacts, with <5 campaigns/yr), but they will probably need me to prove compliance.

Thanks!
Tim

Tim:

We dont know if we are compliant with CAN-SPAM. We have not read it in the recent past to make that statement. Would be great if you can take a look at the most recent CAN-SPAM statement and see if CiviMail meets all the criteria

You might want to consider using CiviSMTP as your backend to process mail and avoid installing CiviMail on DH

OK, thanks. I'm going to be experimenting with CiviCRM over the next couple of months and I'll do what I can to raise any concerns (acknowledging that I'm a newbie with CiviCRM and a novice with bulk emailing.)

OK, by CiviSMTP do you mean the UAS host? Also, I'm unclear on whether this is a replacement for CiviMail (as your message implies). From what I read of the documentation, it looks like CiviMail is still required to configure the SMTP info. Am I missing something?

Thanks,
Tim

yes, i mean the UAS host

CiviSMTP replaces the mail server configuration (the postfix/amavisd/imap2soap...) part of CiviMail. Basically you skip the install of components auxilary to CiviCRM (like amavisd)
