PostgreSQL Support?
July 10, 2008, 02:02:09 pm
Hello,

I noticed in an older thread there was some talk about adding postgreSQL support to CiviCRM potentially for release 2.0.  Did this happen? If not is someone working on for a future release?

Thanks,
Jen

No, that did not happen. We've not heard of other folks doing this either.

The core team does not plan to include postgres support. This will need to be contributed, maintained and fixed by the community. We are definitely willing to change/improve our code to make it easier and allow future code to port more easily

I am working on the new UN-SPIDER portal for disaster response, as per: www.un-spider.org, and we could sure use the functionality of CiViCRM!  The issue, however, is that we really, really need serious mapping capability too, which is only available under Postgres/PostGIS with the MappingKit module.

I know its psycho, but at least worth the thought experiment: I want it all. Is it even conceivable to run 2 parallel sites, and sync the bare minimum: i.e. users and roles, from the Mysql side over to the Postgres site, using hook_user, database triggers, cron craziness, etc, and craft something of an interlocking site?

just a thought... ???

Interested members may look at http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,14103.0.html for my experiment with PostgreSQL.
